Anyone else care to explain how this small water passageway being closed is going to impact the US so dramatically that it requires military force?

Small is a descriptive word. What specifically does anyone think passes in and out of that water passageway that is so important to the US?

The Strait of Hormuz (/hÉ”ËrˈmuËz/ Arabic: مَضيق Ù‡ÙرمÙز‎‎ Maá¸Ä«q Hurmuz Persian: تنگه هرمز‎ Tangeye Hormoz listen (help·info)) is a straitbetween the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It provides the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean and is one of the world's most strategically important choke points.[1] On the north coast lies Iran, and on the south coast the United Arab Emirates and Musandam, an exclave of Oman. At its narrowest, the strait has a width of 21 nautical miles (39 km).[2][3]
A third of the worldâ€s liquefied natural gas and almost 20% of total global oil production passes through the strait, making it a highly important strategic location for international trade.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strait_of_Hormuz

Oil prices would rise dramatically which would stifle economic growth. The stock market would take a big hit too.

In the third quarter of 2018, the U.S. imported roughly 10.2 million barrels of petroleum per day,3with the largest amounts coming from Canada (41%) and Saudi Arabia (10%).4 The recent increase in domestic oil production, especially since 2010, has had a significant impact on U.S. petroleum imports and exports. From 2005 to 2015, the United States†reliance on petroleum imports fell from 60% to 25% of total consumption,6 while exports increased by over 300%.3 Since 2015, imports have remained fairly steady at approximately 10 million barrels per day, but exports have continued to increase, from 4.7 million barrels per day in 2015 to 7.6 million barrels per day in early-mid-2018. The Energy Information Administration projects that U.S. import reliance for oil will continue to fall over the coming decade.6 https://www.americangeosciences.org/crit...and-import

Trolling morons aside.
Iran's actions here don't make much sense. Regardless of what they support and oppose in the region they can't close the strait without taking a nasty military setback and worsening their position vis a vis sanctions. Not sure if they think they will gain some support domestically. At some point if they overplay their hand via terrorism they'll end up in Iraq's boat. As I've said I want us disengaged with Islam. But they seem to be coming to us.
