Trump is negotiating. The media are idiots. Read his book, understand common negotiating tactics and you will understand what he's doing here and with China.

Yet they only desire to throw their hands up and get hysterical.

Mexico is a borderline failed state. Do they control much of anything inside Mexico? Yes, a good bit, but not all, and trying to put more control in area A means less in area B, and they are strained as it is.

I wonder if we might contrive something akin to a DMZ where both sides can operate say 2 miles on either side of the border except in urban areas. Dunno.

A fence is not sufficient.

Having  lot of Mexican citizens in the US is very profitable for them. So is having a flow of drugs into the US. Having Central Americans pass through was no issue for them, although they're finding out it is an issue now. So , no, Mexico hasn't been much help on these issues. The only way to get them to participate is to make it worth their while. Mexico is a mess but it's government , corrupt as it is, does have a lot of power. It will act in it's best interests and will have to decide whether it wants the profits from it's legitimate businesses more than from illicit sources. We'll see.

Mexican Cartels "Absolutely" Control the Southwest Border... https://www.theepochtimes.com/mexican-ca...68412.html

Per Sheriff Andy Louderback of Jackson County, Texas, “[A]cross the border in Mexico we have a complete, organized, criminal business of trafficking humans and drugs into the United States."

The cartels control the trafficking routes throughout Mexico and the entry points, or plazas, into the United States... the Sinaloa Cartel is dominant in California and Arizona, whereas the Gulf Cartel reigns supreme in southeast Texas.

Marlene Castro, a supervisory Border Patrol agent of Rio Grande Valley Sector said, “You have to at some point pay something.... you will not cross from that bank into the United States without paying [the cartels] some money.”

Mexico is run by thugs. Ever watch a movie with Mexicans running rough shot on the locals and corruption all over? That's how Mexico is run. It's why it has to allow illegals and it's own poor to bolt to the US. All that money returning home is accounted for.

Here's another reason Mexico needs to freeload of the US.

I have a friend whose family lives in McAllen, TX. He absolutely verifies this as they regularly hear gunfire across the border from cartels fighting.
