The knock on Kitchens when he was named the OC... he hadn't called plays in a game.
The offense performed very well with him calling plays. They went 4-2 (after bye week).

Sure.  No argument there.

That doesn't mean the next jump is as clean and certain.  I'm not arguing that he will fail, as I don't follow it close enough, but it's odd to me that the threshold is now set at their best record in 5 years.....with a guy who has never been a HC before.

It definitely appears that they are headed in the right direction, Dorsey specifically seems to be the first FO person with an actual workable plan.....

My point was limited to Kitchens.

Everyone criticized the man because... he was a RB position coach, that he hadn't called a play, OC is not the same as coaching RBs, he was a horrible hire... not just for the Browns but for Baker too. They were wrong. The criticism cycle began again when he was named the HC... HC is not the same the as OC, etc etc etc.

I'll give him the chance to perform and lead the team before criticizing him prior to coaching his 1st game.

I'm not criticizing him. I'm just saying that making a certain record a threshold, when it's only been achieved once in the last 6 years is questionable. Especially so when you have a HC learning the ropes.

The Ravens loss proved the Browns have to shore up the DL. Sign 1-2 DL FAs and use the 1st Rd draft pick on a DL.
The Ravens are overrated... week 17 Baker played a horrible game, threw 3 ints, and the Ravens won by 2.

Under Kitchens...
Browns put up 395yds/game and a league best 6.86yds/play.
Cleveland scored TDs on its first 12 trips inside the red zone.
Baker's numbers skyrocketed.
The Browns gave up 5 sacks vs 33 sacks with Hue/Haley.
Just 9 QB hits. Next best... 29 by the Colts.
Chubb was 3rd in yards/game ~85yds/gm.
The tangible improvements under Kitchens goes on and on... eg 5wins/8games.

Nice post, good analysis.  The moves for FA this off season will determine how much the Browns improve.  I'm excited for the team.

Well, they have Nick Chubb, who is a class guy, so I am for them.

I gather he does pretty well in the League also.

Just read they signed Kareem Hunt.... this is Bungals like pick up (gambel on a player with off the field issues). You knew someone was going to pick him up, just surprising the Browns did. local Cleveland guy

Coming from a family with a criminal history like that, its incredible he made it this far. Hopefully he's been getting and continue to get the help he needs.

For what does he need to seek help?

The calls for him to be banned from the league over a misdemeanor were ridiculous.

Luckily he wasn't busted with pot, his career would of definitely been over  Rolleyes

I do NOT condone any violence against women.   BUT, the NFL is not made up of choir boys lets be honest.  I'll bet anything there were MANY of his kind back in the day and nothing happened.

Do you think he should be banned for a misdemeanor?

Ok....so many did it 'back in the day'.  Question is.....should the viewpoint that would minimize domestic abuse, or ignore it, change or not?
