Confirmation bias. Humans seek "news" that aligns with what they want to think about life rather than news that challenges them.
Fox News does the same thing.

Not to this extreme.  Not in the same galaxy.  Heck, even Fox had more negative coverage of Trump than positive in a recent study  -- 52/48, whereas the clown show networks were either over 90% negative or in the 80s.
