I hear you......and I'll say that I suspect there is a much smaller population of females that could fit the bill for this role.
I'm totally opposed to women in combat(ground). Totally. I have spoken with those that have been in those roles and it creates a mess on various levels.
This is combat, but it's more singular and not as messy IMO.

This woman has been through OCS, I imagine, and then The Basic School, which is a 6 month non-walk in the park, and then flight training at P-cola.
Maybe everyone was told to let her slide through, I don't know, or perhaps she is very competent.
The infantry thing is indeed a mess, hygiene being one issue. But I doubt very many females are 0311 Marines even now. And I am right, only ELEVEN 03s out there, ELEVEN. That may as well be zero.

Two years after the Defense Department ordered the Marine Corps to open all combat arms career fields to women, less than 100 women have successfully entered those previously male-only jobs.
A total of 92 women are operating in a multitude of combat billets across the Corps, from rifleman to armored reconnaissance to combat engineers.
Yet only 11 enlisted women are serving today in the traditional “03†infantry career fields, Marine Corps officials said. No women have even attempted the Basic Reconnaissance Course or Amphibious Reconnaissance Course, and there are no female snipers, according to data provided by Manpower and Reserve Affairs.
Of the women serving in combat billets, most of them are in less physically demanding roles such as light air defense and artillery, commonly referred to as a non-load bearing job field, according to data obtained by Marine Corps Times.

That's interesting stuff cincy. I will note that other cultures have used women soldiers and still do. Very frequently and they've been known to be pretty vicious troops. I think they just used them differently. Instead of shoehorning them into male roles they let them carry what they can and do what they can.Â

Yeah, other cultures view it differently, and have a need for them also.
Very few female Marines can manage the physical loads encountered in a ground combat situation where your standard load can easily be 90 pounds and it's very hot.
I don't know how men manage it frankly but if you're 200 pounds with testosterone, it's obviously possible. Everyone has to carry their weight, literally.
The Army likely has quite a few more female 03s.

I don't even know what planet we're on in some of these threads. Some of you are obsessed with women in a bad way, instead of a good way.

What is an example of that specifically? Is it wrong to question whether females can be as effective in certain jobs as males?

It's like saying that the guys who are in momma's basement playing CoD are the same as the guys that are training to be ace pilots.
Fair enough, but I just had a minor quibble with the situational awareness thing. Not sure I can roll with it. Maybe if it's defined down more I could? but I've been in way too many express lines waiting for a woman to fumble through her purse or chat up the cashier about her grand-kids or cats to just simply roll with it. Â
You think women aren't aware of how their behavior affects others? They are, especially in the situation(s) you describe. The simple definition... Situational Awareness is the perception of environmental elements and events with respect to time or space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their future status.

One of my best friends - she introduced me to treading water routine - is a retired AH-64 Pilot. Fit, bright, attractive. She was #2 in her class. She told me the average to above average female would wash out. I believe her. This does not mean the elite female could not pass training. She is elite.
I think modern technology has both lesson or removed the talent gap between men and women; at least in the pilot roles.

This is anecdotal, so perhaps it's unusual, but Daughter #2 told me that 2/3rds of her training platoon failed to qualify at the range at PI. She said about half didn't qualify at the end and got recycled, and of course her training platoon gained some who had been recycled. The majority of the male recruits qualify first time. She told me the range instructors had them out early in the morning before the wind picked up and tested the middle recruits first, those who might qualify in ideal conditions. She was last to fire in her group, and qualified Marksman.
This is not a task that requires any strength of course.

That's not surprising. Any child of yours is guaranteed to be superior in all things. Â
Anyway, congratulations to her.

Marksman is the lowest level of qualification.

How so? This is the only thread on the first two pages of this forum wherein a woman's capabilities are being discussed. How does this qualify as an "obsession"?

Congratulations on your progeny qualifying. She is obviously superior to most, which isn't surprising considering you are her father. Obviously she would be superior.

BRM washed out many in basic training. It took me 2 entire days to zero my weapon. The D.I. was less than happy. He actually told me to use 'kentucky windage'. Yea, how's that going to work in combat?
Same D.I. bragged to a one star General when he pinned Expert Badge on me. 42/42 one of three to do so.
