Artificial Intelligence and Automation

Our bodies are made for work.  Take a look around at how humans are neglecting their bodies and the health issues associated with this.   With that posted I'm about to go to the gym for 75 minutes of cardio and some weight machines after that. Sad  It's no fun.

In wide open spaces I can see this, in a closed inner city highway, there is too much liability to make it feasible. One serious accident or electronic failure could do them in.

Japan has been using automated trains for awhile. Trains are needed because of the congestion. Same with AI vehicles.

The other day I saw on the news (Japan) an automated vehicle caused an accident. It was at fault. I think the Japanese law states the owner of the vehicle is responsible. The funny part was the absolute look of shock and disbelief on the faces of the Engineers. Those dudes could not believe their design failed. It happens.
DC is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is basic voter stupidity and economic ignorance.

Yup, expect a full court press on this.

So essentially the wealthy will automate their workforce to save on labor costs, but pay higher taxes in order to contribute to UBI so people can buy their stuff.  Confused

There's a glaring diminishing returns red flag waving in everyone's face with this, but no one seems to want to admit it.  There will be a point where automated everything will become pointless.  Not everyone will be repairing these robots, not to mention that eventually they will probably have robots repairing robots as well.  So where do every day people earn their money?

As much as it pains me to say this (and believe me, it does), work is good for human-beings well being.  The thought of waiting around for my UBI check so I can go shop online at Prog-boy's store (Amazon) doesn't sound like a life I want to lead any time soon.  And if you think *YOU* can't be replaced because you're so damn smart and special?  Think again.  Hell, we already have robots performing surgery with human guidance, how long til AI makes surgeons a thing of the past?  Heck, how long til we can do without lawyers?  I can pull up info on my laptop at the drop of a hat, so why do I need some liberal arts clown with a law degree doing my estate planning?  etc, etc, etc...

Who do you think will design these robots? Build them? Sell them? Deliver them? And do all of this for all of their components?

This is a rather silly discussion, for the most part, and beneath the intellect of this board.

You think the guy that drives a big rig is gonna turn on a dime and start designing robots?  Robots will eventually build the robots.  People will buy them online.  Who needs a salesman?  Deliver them?  Automated shipping.  Now yes of course there will be some new avenues workers can go down, but the net loss of jobs *could* be staggering.

Don't get me wrong, this is clearly still quite a ways off, but "they" aren't bringing up UBI for no reason.  They sure as hell aint bringing it up just because they're a bunch of nice guys.

The liability issues likely are the other way, full autonomous would provide lower liability than humans and be a strong driving force (ha) for this technology.

Maybe in other countries, but in this sue-happy country, there would be lawyers standing in line to sue a company that used autonomous vehicles that cause a fatal injury.

Not saying it will never happen (full autonomous type vehicles), but you'll have unions, non union workers and a few "intellectuals" protesting the value of autonomy. I see it happening, but not as soon as we think, on a wide scale.
