Texas state lawmaker calls for 'praying for protection' instead of gun reform in wake of mass shooting

[b]Washington (CNN) — [/b]A Texas Republican state representative said he opposes stricter gun laws and that people should instead be "praying for protection" hours after a mass shooting Saturday that "so-called gun-control solutions" won't "stop a person with evil intent," and that people should instead pray for victims and those with "evil intent."


"'Do something!' is the statement we keep hearing," he wrote. "As an elected official with a vote in Austin, let me tell you what I am NOT going to do. I am NOT going to use the evil acts of a handful of people to diminish the God-given rights of my fellow Texans. Period. None of these so-called gun-control solutions will work to stop a person with evil intent."

Later in the post he continues: "What can we do? YES to praying for victims. YES to praying for protection. YES to praying that God would transform the hearts of people with evil intent."

The embarrassing thing is thinking that frantically passing some gun law is going to do anything to stop this crap.  This nation has been armed to the teeth since its inception.  If the problem isnâ€t the change in  people, then what is it?  

The GOP has given us plenty of reasons to leave over the years.  Their only saving grace is that the alternative is a nightmare.

Praying might be the only thing less effective than any proposed gun laws. Hard to think of a sillier course of action. Maybe we could put a curse on murderers.

Here's a few off the top of my head.

They spend like Democrats.
They insist on having an unnecessarily large military. 
They use that unnecessarily large military to waste more money by involving us in policing the world.
Their view on gay rights.
Their view on stem cell research.
Their unwillingness to keep church and state separate.
Their views on appropriate behavior by police.
Their War on Drugs.
It was after the fact, but only reinforced my decision to leave the party: they nominated and elected Trump.
