We have an "egg cam" here in Az. Eagles nesting at Lake Pleasant. Crows ate the first egg or two. I think they laid more. Not sure. Crows are destructive predators and really smart.

Crows are smart. They find a way to draw the adult off the nest and then take the egg. The more seasoned adults aren't as easily baited.

With chickens you can inject food coloring into a specific part of the egg with a sterile hypodermic needle at a specific stage of their development, and then the chicks will subsequently hatch as whatever color you used on their egg.Â
