Daily roundup for spring training info:
Sonny Gray has been scratched from his first scheduled Spring Training start Saturday due to right elbow stiffness.
Gray said Friday that it's not a serious injury and he's just being cautious. He expects to resume throwing within the next couple of days.

Tanner Roark will start Saturday's game in Gray's place as the Reds host the Indians at Goodyear Ballpark at 3:05 p.m. ET.
It would have been Gray's first time taking the mound for game action in a Reds uniform. The 29-year-old right-hander, who was acquired from the Yankees in January, is looking for a rebound year in his first season in Cincinnati. Gray went 11-9 with a 4.90 ERA for the Yankees in 2018, with 123 strikeouts in 130 1/3 innings.
Roark will also be pitching his first game for the Reds, as he was acquired in a trade with the Nationals in December. The 32-year-old right-hander went 9-15 for Washington last season, with 146 strikeouts in 180 1/3 innings.

Looks like 2019 will be my return to GABP.  Look, I don't just support winners.  I mean the Reds are in my DNA.  That said, ya still at least gotta put a competitive product on the field to get me to drag my kid's azzez all the way down to Cincy for a game or two.

My gut tells me that this team could crack .500 this year.  82-80 would be a helluva lot better than what we've gotten used to recently.  Could they compete for a wild card?  I think there's a possibility, but I'm going to try to keep my expectations a little more grounded.  A winning ball club is definitely a big step in the right direction.

The NL Central is gonna be brutal this year. Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals all have loaded, experienced teams coming back and the Pirates don't have a typical last place roster, just the worst one in the division. That said, the Reds potentially have the most firepower in the division in spots 1-8 if Senzel is the real deal and Votto bounces back to his usual self (he says he is tweaking things and expects it), and I predict at least one of the new SPs will have a big year, not just a solid year. Luis Castillo could continue to develop into something really special.

I keep waiting for the day that the Cards' roster ages and they drift into mediocrity---like everyone else eventually does.  I've been waiting for about 15 years now.   Confused

The Cardinals had the 2 best acquisitions of any team in the off season w/ Goldschmitt and Andrew Miller, unfortunately. Machado at $30 million a year is dumb buy-the Reds have Suarez, whose 18' numbers 34 104 .283 .366 OBP , are virtually as good as Machado's-37-107 .297 .367 OBP but something like $21 million a year cheaper-and Machado will be playing in the best pitchers park in MLB in San Diego.

Reds are in a middle ground here. Acquired some talent this winter, unloaded Homer bailey's contract.....yet alot of that talent is on a one year deal with the minor league talent a couple years off. And not enough pitching to make any real noise with the top of the division or league.

I look for this kid to come on strong this year.    He's only 26, throws near 100, and has devastating change.  He has great shot at 15 wins or more.

Senzel transitioning nicely into CF.  Three hits yesterday in BIG win over ChiSox
