It is pretty clear that shutting down the border, if that is even possible, would have significant economic impact on US production.  

To think this some trivial thing, if anyone does, is absurd.

And I doubt even Trump would really do it.  Imagine being an American trapped on the other side.

I don't recall anyone saying it is a trivial thing.  The issue is would it be as devastating as some make it out to be.  In short could it be our economy is strong enough to overcome this where we would still be chugging along?   Will this cause a recession?  I think it would have an impact but we would still keep moving along.

I don't think it will happen for obvious reasons, but it would be a significant negative impact on our economy. I'd guess the DJIA would drop 1500 points in short order and continue falling. Trade is over $600 billion a year. Shutting that down, largely, would be rather significant, and replacing the parts we get from Mexico in parts and whatnot would be an enormous challenge for companies.

It would be very nasty, and won't happen.
